The basics

What areas do you serve?+

We are based in Clinton Township and serve homeowners and businesses across Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne County, including Sterling Heights, Shelby Township, Macomb Township, St. Clair Shores, Rochester Hills, Troy, and the surrounding communities. If you are nearby and not sure whether we cover you, just ask.

Are you insured?+

Yes. Prime Example Painting is fully insured. We are glad to confirm our coverage before we start your project so you have peace of mind.

Do you charge for estimates?+

No. Estimates are free and there is no pressure. We look at the work, talk through your options and colors, and give you a clear price.

What paint and materials do you use?+

We use quality Sherwin-Williams products chosen for a smooth, durable finish that lasts. If you have a specific brand, color, or sheen in mind, we will work with it.

How long have you been painting?+

Prime Example Painting was founded in 2019 and has grown by word of mouth across Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne County. Colin still leads the crew on quality.

Do you do both residential and commercial work?+

Yes. Most of our work is residential repaints, cabinet refinishing, staining, and drywall, and we also handle commercial painting for offices, retail, and rental properties on a schedule that works around your operations.

How do you protect my home while you work?+

We move and cover furniture, mask off floors, trim, and fixtures, and protect anything that is not being painted. We clean up at the end of each day and do a final walk-through before we call the job done.

How soon can you start?+

It depends on the season and our current schedule, but we respond quickly and give you an honest timeline with your estimate. Reach out and we will let you know our next availability.

How do I get started?+

Call or text us, or send a message through our contact form. We will set up a free estimate and go from there.

Service

Interior Painting

Do you move furniture and protect my floors?+

Yes. We move and cover furniture, mask off floors, trim, and fixtures, and protect every surface that is not being painted. We clean up at the end of each day so your home stays livable while we work.

How long does it take to paint a room?+

Most standard rooms are prepped and painted in a day, depending on wall condition, the number of coats, and the trim work involved. We give you a clear timeline with your estimate.

What paint do you use?+

We use quality Sherwin-Williams products chosen for a smooth, durable finish that holds up to daily life. If you have a brand or sheen preference, we will work with it.

Can you help me choose colors?+

Absolutely. Our crew is glad to share recommendations on color and sheen based on your lighting and how each room is used. Many of our customers tell us they are happy they followed our suggestions.

Service

Exterior Painting

What is your exterior prep process?+

Prep is most of the work on an exterior. We pressure wash, scrape and sand loose paint, prime bare spots, and caulk gaps before any finish coat goes on. Good prep is the difference between a job that lasts and one that peels.

When can you paint outside in Michigan?+

Exterior painting works best from late spring through fall, when temperature and humidity cooperate. We watch the forecast and schedule coats when conditions let the paint cure properly.

Can you fix peeling or weathered wood?+

Yes. We scrape, sand, prime, and address failing wood before painting. On a recent job we brought old, cracked, peeling soffits back to looking brand new with proper prep and multiple coats.

Service

Cabinet Refinishing

Is refinishing cheaper than new cabinets?+

Yes, by a wide margin in most kitchens. If your cabinet boxes are solid, refinishing gives you a fresh look for a fraction of the cost of replacement or refacing.

How durable is a refinished cabinet?+

Very, when it is done right. The durability comes from prep: degreasing, sanding, and the right bonding primer before the topcoats. We do not skip those steps, which is what keeps the finish from chipping.

What colors work well for cabinets?+

Whites, off-whites, greys, and deeper accent tones are all popular right now. We are glad to talk through what will fit your counters, floors, and lighting.

Service

Deck & Fence Staining

Should I stain or seal my deck?+

It depends on the wood and the look you want. A clear or semi-transparent stain shows the grain while adding protection. A solid stain hides more and lasts longer on older wood. We will recommend the right option after we see it.

How often should a deck be re-stained?+

In Michigan, most decks benefit from a refresh every two to four years depending on sun exposure and foot traffic. Fences usually go longer. Regular re-coating is far cheaper than replacing failed boards.

Can you fix a graying or weathered deck?+

Often, yes. Cleaning and sanding remove much of the gray surface layer, and a fresh stain brings back warmth and color. We will tell you honestly if any boards are too far gone to save.

Service

Interior & Exterior Staining

Can you match new wood to my existing stain?+

We do our best to match. Stain color depends on the species and age of the wood, so we test on a sample area first and adjust until it blends as closely as possible.

Do you stain interior railings and trim?+

Yes. Interior stair railings, trim, doors, and built-ins are a regular part of our work. We mask carefully so the surrounding walls and floors stay clean.

Service

Drywall Repair & Finishing

Do you repair drywall and paint, or just one?+

Both. Because we paint, we finish drywall to a paint-ready standard, which means repairs disappear under the finish coat instead of showing through. We can handle the repair and the paint as one job.

Can you match my existing ceiling or wall texture?+

In most cases, yes. We match common textures so the patch blends in. We will let you know up front if an area is likely to need a full wall or ceiling refinish to look seamless.

Can you fix water-damaged drywall?+

Yes. Once the source of the moisture is resolved, we cut out the damaged drywall, replace and finish it, and get it ready for paint.

Service

Commercial Painting

Can you work after hours to avoid disrupting business?+

Yes. For commercial work we schedule around your operations, including evenings and weekends, when that keeps your business running smoothly.

Do you handle rental and property-management work?+

We do. We have painted rental properties and units for owners and managers, and we can coordinate access and turnaround so spaces are ready for the next tenant.

Do you paint occupied offices and retail spaces?+

Yes. We protect floors, furniture, and fixtures, keep work areas tidy, and sequence the work so occupied spaces stay usable and safe.

Ready for a fresh coat?
